Nearly one million young people aged 16–24 across the UK were not in education, employment or training in April–June 2026 (ONS).
The National Lottery Community Fund is investing in projects like Green Gateway to change that — breaking down barriers and, just as importantly, listening to what young people actually have to say.
Two of our Green Gateway participants, Jordan and Kitty, are now on paid work placements in West Wales, gaining hands-on experience in fields that genuinely match their interests and ambitions. Recently, they were invited to meet Dame Julia to talk openly about their journeys so far — the challenges they've faced, what's changed for them, and how they're feeling about the future.
